Our Story

How Saksama Legal Came to Be

Saksama Legal was established in Kuala Lumpur by practitioners who had observed a recurring gap in the market: corporate clients frequently found themselves navigating complex legal decisions without adequate time to think, often because their advisors moved at a pace dictated by billing cycles rather than the client's genuine readiness to proceed.

The practice was founded with a different philosophy in mind. We believe that a client who understands their legal position thoroughly — and who has had adequate time to consider it — makes better decisions and sustains more durable commercial relationships. Our work is therefore structured around that belief: we advise at a pace that serves clarity, not urgency.

From our office on Jalan Raja Chulan, we advise on corporate formation, commercial contracts, and transactions. Our client base spans Malaysian founders, family-owned enterprises, and foreign investors entering the Malaysian market. What they share is a preference for working with counsel who will be direct about the law and considerate of their circumstances.

Our Mission

To provide honest, measured corporate legal counsel that allows clients to make informed decisions about their business structures, contracts, and transactions — without pressure, without haste, and without complexity where simplicity will serve.

Clarity over complexity — We explain legal positions in plain language, not to oversimplify, but to respect the client's intelligence and time.

Depth over breadth — We focus on a defined area of corporate law to maintain genuine expertise rather than spread ourselves across unfamiliar territories.

Relationship over transaction — Most of our clients return for matters beyond their first engagement because they find that a practitioner who knows their background serves them more effectively.

Professional Standards

How We Maintain Quality

The standards below govern how we work — not as aspirational statements, but as operating principles applied to every matter.

Bar Council Compliance

All practitioners are members of the Malaysian Bar and adhere to the Legal Profession Act 1976 and the Bar Council's professional conduct rules in every engagement.

Client Confidentiality

Legal professional privilege is treated as a foundational obligation. Information shared with us in the course of a matter is held in strict confidence and not disclosed without clear client authority.

Document Review Protocol

All substantive documents — contracts, corporate instruments, transaction documents — are reviewed at senior counsel level before delivery. No matter is considered complete until this internal check is satisfied.

Conflict Checking

A conflict of interest review is conducted before accepting any new engagement. We do not represent parties with opposing interests in the same matter, and we communicate any identified conflict to the prospective client directly.

Continuing Legal Education

Practitioners attend relevant CPD programmes and monitor legislative developments — particularly in the Companies Act 2016, the Contracts Act 1950, and SSM regulatory updates — to ensure advice reflects current law.

Clear Client Communication

We set expectations at the outset of every engagement: estimated timelines, fee stages, and the scope of work. We do not expand scope or adjust fees without first discussing the change with the client.

Practice Overview

Corporate Legal Counsel in Kuala Lumpur

Saksama Legal operates from central Kuala Lumpur, advising clients across Malaysia on the legal aspects of corporate formation, commercial documentation, and business transactions. The practice draws on deep familiarity with the Companies Act 2016, the Contracts Act 1950, and the regulatory framework administered by Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia and the Securities Commission.

Clients who come to Saksama Legal typically face one of three situations: they are establishing a new entity and require advice on structure and governance; they are formalising a commercial relationship and need documentation that reflects the actual agreement between the parties; or they are considering a transaction — a share sale, a restructuring, or an acquisition — and require counsel who can manage the legal dimensions of that process from start to conclusion.

The practice deliberately does not occupy every corner of the law. We advise on corporate and commercial law, and we refer clients to appropriate specialists for matters outside that scope. This focus allows our practitioners to maintain the depth of knowledge that corporate clients require and the consistency of approach that sustains working relationships over time.

Engagements are undertaken on clearly stated terms, with fees agreed before work begins. Clients receive direct access to the practitioner responsible for their matter and are not passed between different individuals as the engagement progresses. This continuity is, in our experience, one of the more significant practical differences between a focused practice and a larger general firm.
